Possession Mallorquin

A possession is the type of dispersed rural property typical of the Balearic island of Mallorca. It consists of both houses to be used living areas and other buildings and dependencies for the agricultural exploitation of an extensive surrounding territory. It is the equivalent of the Catalan farmhouse, the Basque farmhouse or the Andalusian farmhouse and the name given since the sixteenth century on the old generic names of Arab origin of the farms. In most cases, the name of the old farmhouses was replaced by the name or lineage of the owner preceded by the particle are -contracted form of açò d'en- which denotes property.
