International Schools Mallorca

Mallorca has a wide selection of good quality schools both international schools and in the public-school system. Most villages in the central region on the island have schools for children in the lower age groups, and some of the larger villages have schools in the senior age groups which use the school bus system.  It can be a difficult choice for foreign parents, younger children normally enjoy the experience of going to a local public school making friendships with children in the local community in which they live. For children in the senior age groups both Mallorcan and foreign families chose the international schools for the school years when they wish focus on examinations and later university.

Villages libraries also offer children’s reading groups in various languages as a supplement to the local school’s language classes. Younger children respond well engaging in the story absorbing the language without the pressure of a classroom and socializing with new friends. The story tellers are normally local language tutors who also offer private revision classes (clases de repaso), a small class with a tutor can be the ideal introduction to the island before the beginning of the of the school year both for children entering the public-school system and the internation schools . Librarians keep the contact information for tutors and will have information about summer schools and after school activities.

At the moment there are 22 international schools and colleges in Mallorca, and a tutoring academy which offers revision for a wide range of subjects in both the English and Spanish curriculum. There are groups for parents on social media platforms English Speaking Parents Mallorca on Facebook as an example. Visits to schools can be organized by contacting the administrator of the school, and many schools have Summer Projects or Summer Schools which is a good way to experience the school for a short period for an impression of the school during the school year.
